Are there membership fees?

Yes. We ask for a one-time $25 membership fee from all who sign up to order items from our farm. And, by becoming a member, you agree to our Buyers Terms & Conditions and will provide us with a signed copy at your first transaction.

Your membership affirms your support of our farming efforts and gives us more freedom to share our farming practices and food knowledge with you. It also allows us to provide a broader range of what our farm produces in a much more effective manner.

How do I pay for my order?

Our check-out process is designed so that you can pay for your items upon collection – simply select “Pay Later” at check out. If your order is to place a deposit on an animal/meat, a PayPal invoice will be generated and sent to you, after you place your order. _Note: we do not take deposits until we are within 6 mos. of the planned processing date. _

If you would like to pre-pay for items or pay without having to wait for an invoice to be generated, you may do so by selecting the [Buy Now] button below.
The button will take you to a screen where you will see the description: “My Shopping Cart Total”, beneath that, where it says “Price per item”, enter the TOTAL amount of your order. The quantity will be “1” for “one shopping cart” (all taxes are included) then click [Continue] to make your payment.

Why Support Locally Grown?

Enhance your local economy: By purchasing produce and other items from local growers you are providing stability to your local economy through the support of local businesses.

Save natural resources: Buying locally makes you an invaluable link in the process of saving resources such as fossil fuels and packaging materials. Also, we are right here in your community so the expense of transportation and delivery is kept to a minimum.

Provide learning opportunities: Locally Grown supporters provide member growers the means to help educate our community about the importance of sustainable agriculture.

Supporting a way of life: The number of small farms in the United States has decreased dramatically in the last decade. Please help us preserve an honest and worthy means of making a living.

We believe that small, diverse, family-owned farms contribute to society’s overall health.

Will I have to buy vegetables I don’t want?

Unlike some co-ops, buying clubs, or CSAs where everyone gets the same box of stuff (and you don’t know what you’re getting until you get it), with Locally Grown you get to order what you want and in the quantities that you want.

Fresh vegetables are seasonal so, we can’t promise the availability of fruits and vegetables, year round therefore, when you see them on the site, and you want them, get your order in fast.

If you want something that is not listed, please e-mail us and we will see if we can grow it for you. Typically, we grow what works best with our climate and soil but, we are always open to new requests.

Why do you have Buyer's Terms and Conditions?

One of the most challenging obstacles for a sustainable farmer is getting their wonderful products to the customer. We are often inundated with requests and inquires so to help weed out those who are truly seeking knowledge and an alternate avenue to locate better food/products, from those looking to “investigate” for various reasons or “solicit”, we ask our first time buyers to sign our Buyer’s Terms and Conditions.

You can view, download and print the document from this link Buyers Terms & Conditions. We will ask for a signed copy from you at your first face to face farm transaction. If, for any reason, you can’t or do not want to agree to the terms and conditions, please notify the market manager ASAP and your membership will be reversed and the fee you paid for membership will be refunded.

What is a sustainable farmer?

Sustainable farmers seek to produce food indefinitely, without causing irreversible damage to the health of the ecosystem. Sustainable agriculture practices nourish the long-term health of the soil through crop rotation, green manures, and composting.
Sustainable animal husbandry builds an environment that reflects the needs of the animal (what farmer Joel Salatin calls “the chickenness of the chicken”) and provides an animal with the diet it evolved to eat; it does not impose an industrial system of production on a set of living beings.

Do I have to come to the farm?

Though our pick-up locations are most convenient for items frequently bought, we do like to see our supporters visit the farm at least once to see where their food comes from which encourages our efforts.

We are not a co-op nor do we require work days on the farm.

We do offer “true farm experiences” with tours and hands-on experiences through our Forever Farms venture – please contact us if interested in this option.

What about commitments?

We hope, by the time you sign up for membership, that you have some sense of commitment to supporting our farm and sustainable agriculture, in general. You may purchase as much or as little as you want through this site.

We do ask our egg buyers to join our egg group and follow through with their commitments throughout the season (March – October) so we do not turn others away, without cause, leaving us, in the end, with too many eggs and no buyers. We keep a sizable flock of chickens for pasture management and, egg commitments help us manage the logistics so the eggs they produce are distributed at their peak freshness.

Our meat is limited and is usually secured by a deposit up to six months in advance of processing day. All meat deposits will be forfeited should one fail to follow through with their commitment to collect the meat after the animal is processed. (Note: Those with meat and egg commitments receive optimal pricing and obtain the items at their peak freshness.)

For my own planning purposes, what is your harvest schedule?

This is a great question since shopping directly from a farm is very different than having items available, year-round, from a grocery store, at your convenience. Therefore, we have comprised a harvest schedule as a general outline of what we will have and when.

Link to Harvest Schedule

This is especially convenient for meat purchases so you can plan a constant supply of meat year-round since our wait list is usually six months or more in advance.

And, remember, we may only have mouth watering tomatoes a few months out of the year but, when they are here, after much anticipation, you will cherish them so much more. This is also true with less desirable items as well; e.g. asparagus – if you only eat it when it is in season, you may, surprisingly, find yourself craving it during off season.

I placed an order but, how do I collect it/pay for it?

Once you place an order, we will pack it up and prepare to bring it to one of our drop off locations (see When and Where do I pick up my order?). Or, if you would rather come to the farm, simply plan to come during our “open” hours (listed on our Google Profile).

If you have placed an order for an item that is not immediately available, we will keep your order open until the item becomes available and notify you of such. Or, if the order can’t be fulfilled, we will notify you and cancel the order.

Please be aware that some items have a longer than 6 mos. waiting period. If we have not invoiced you for your order, it does not mean your order was cancelled, it simply means our window to collect a deposit to secure the order is closed. We do not hold deposits longer than six months so, when we are within six months of the product being available, we will send you an invoice.

I ordered a whole or 1/2 animal, how do I get it cut/processed?

Your pork, beef or lamb animal will be dropped off at a USDA/State Inspected processing plant. Once we drop off an animal, in your name, you become the “customer” and, if this is a first time for you, it may seem a bit intimidating. But, no need for alarm as the processor will ask you very general questions like: How many pieces of the cut do you want in each package? How much of the animal do you want ground? How much do you want whole or cut and, if cut, how many per package and how thick do you want it cut?

For a visual explanation, we recommend this very straight-forward video from Texas Farmstead Living
that goes through the process step by step. Ordering Cuts

The video is specific to ordering beef; however, the same concept applies to pork and lamb.

For specific lamb information, this guide may prove helpful: Lamb Cuts

Note: This information does not apply to chicken; chicken is processed on our farm and can only be picked up directly at the farm.

Can I sell items through this market?

If you are a sustainable farmer with growing standards comparable to our own or produce added value products that support sustainable agriculture, please contact the market manager about co-farming possibilities.

If you are a back-yard gardener, growing with organic methods (herbicide and pesticide free) who enjoys gardening but often has harvests too large for your own consumption, we need to talk. Not everyone can grow meat and eggs but, anyone can grow a garden. If you are a gardener, please contact us because we always have a need for more fruits and vegetables.

Products are vetted carefully before incorporating them with our own to offer to our members. We have high standards and look for others with the same.
