Are there membership fees?

No – you may create an account, and shop at no additional charge. When you create an account, you also agree to our Buyers Terms & Conditions. We will also ask you to provide us with a signed copy at your first physical encounter with us (either at the farm or when we meet at one of our pick-up locations).

For more involvement see [What else can I do other than shop at the farm?] under the Q’s and A’s tab.

Why do you have Buyer's Terms and Conditions?

We are a small family working farm growing food of exceptional quality and, that in itself, requires a lot of hard work. However, the challenges we face trying to get our product to you, our customer, go far beyond the challenges of running a farm. (just visit FARFA to see the myriad of obstacles a farmer faces and/or search Everything I want to do is illegal by Joel Salatin).

We know that no good deed goes unpunished and we are aware of the risk we take and do so in order to be able to share our exceptional farm harvests and knowledge with others. In turn, your signed agreement affirms your support of our farming efforts. It also tells us you are at our farm to share in the goodness and not with the intention of harming or suing for personal gain or coerced by another to do so (see the case where Lavon Farms’ raw milk dairy was shut down for months due to malicious claims). Copy this link for an article relating to that incident:, [https://www.davidgumpert.com/health-officials-say-they-have-the-goods-on-texas-raw-dairy-so-why-are-there-so-many-strange-occurrences]

If you do not want to agree to the terms and conditions, please notify the market manager ASAP so we can cancel your order – we will only sell to those who sign the agreement. Thank you for your understanding.

With the exception of whole and/or half beef, lamb and pork, you may pick up at one of our drop off locations or directly from the farm.

Whole and/or half beef, lamb and pork can also be picked up directly from the processor. When you place an order for those items, we will contact you with specifics including detailed pick-up information.

Or, pick up at the Greenville Farmers Market (any Saturday from 10-11:15am)

Or, pick up in Fairview, TX (one Saturday per month (we will choose and coordinate according to volume of orders) from 12:30-1:15pm).

Why are there "other growers" listed on this site?

Green Family Farm mainly grows meat and eggs. We have a pick your own garden for those who sign up to be in our “friends” club. Access to our gardens is one of many perks of joining the club (see Q&A “Farm Learning and Growing – Becoming a Friend of the Farm”).

Therefore, we partner with other farmers to offer our customers more buying options. Those farms/farmers are independent of Green Family Farm and you can see their sites or request info or to contact them directly about their products anytime (just google their farm name or e-mail us and ask for their contact information).

What is a sustainable farmer?

A new kind of farmer was born in this era – they call themselves, non-conventional, sustainable and regenerative farmers. They are a group of farmers who seek a broader understanding of farming and strive to make changes to improve the over-used sub-soil left from a time when most of America was over-farmed then doused with chemicals and unnatural fertilizers as a “quick fix”. They do not rely on minimal input for maximum and/or immediate profits, as is typical in the industry. They strive to be price makers instead of price takers in order to keep the quality of what they grow at its best. They invest in their future harvests to the height of their ability, in faith, that the final product will be superior, and recognized as such by consumers. They are driven by quality and rewarded by highly satisfied consumers who will contribute to their passion for good food and financially support their effort to produce more, at best. Or, at worst, their reward is simply good food on the family table.

Sustainable agriculture practices nourish the long-term health of the soil through crop rotation, green manures, and composting.

Sustainable animal husbandry builds an environment that reflects the needs of the animal (what farmer Joel Salatin calls “the chickenness of the chicken”) and provides an animal with the diet it evolved to eat; it does not impose an industrial system of production on a set of living beings.

Do I have to come to the farm?

Though our pick-up locations are most convenient for items frequently bought, we do like to see our supporters visit the farm at least once to see where their food comes from which encourages our efforts.

We are not a co-op nor do we require work days on the farm.

You may schedule a private farm tour (for a fee) – see the farm tour item in [The Market] section of this site.

What about commitments?

We hope, when you create an account on this site that you have some sense of commitment to supporting our farm and sustainable agriculture, in general.

You may purchase as much or as little as you want through this site.

We do ask our off-site egg buyers to join our egg group and follow through with their commitments throughout the season (March – October) so we don’t turn direct on the farm buyers away, without cause, leaving us, in the end, with too many eggs and no buyers. We keep a sizable flock of chickens for pasture management and, egg commitments help us manage the logistics so the eggs they produce are distributed at their peak freshness.

We also ask buyers of whole and/or half beef, lamb and pork to place a deposit (up to six months in advance) to hold their place to guarantee their purchase. We only offer this items once or twice a year so it is important to secure an animal with a deposit if you want a whole or half instead of buying it by the cut in small quantities. All meat deposits will be forfeited should one fail to follow through with their commitment to collect the meat after the animal is processed.

(Note: Those with meat and egg commitments receive optimal pricing and obtain the items at their peak freshness.)

For my own planning purposes, what is your harvest schedule?

This is a great question since shopping directly from a farm is very different than having items available, year-round, from a grocery store. Therefore, we have comprised a harvest schedule as a general outline of what we will have and when.

Link to Harvest Schedule

This is especially convenient for meat purchases so you can plan a constant supply of meat year-round since our wait list is usually booked up 1 year or more in advance.

If you are looking for something specific, please contact us before you arrive to ensure we have it available at the farm.

I placed an order, now what?

Once you place an order, we will pack it up and prepare to bring it to one of our drop off locations (see When and Where do I pick up my order?). Or, if you would rather come to the farm, simply plan to come during our “open” hours (listed on our Google Profile).

If you have placed an order for an item that is not immediately available, we will keep your order open until the item becomes available and notify you of such. Or, if the order can’t be fulfilled, we will notify you and cancel the order.

Please be aware that some items have a longer than 6 mos. waiting period. If we have not invoiced you for your order, it does not mean your order was cancelled, it simply means our window to collect a deposit to secure the order is closed. We do not hold deposits longer than six months so, when we are within six months of the product being available, we will send you an invoice.

I ordered a whole or 1/2 animal, how do I get it cut/processed?

Your pork, beef or lamb animal will be dropped off at a USDA/State Inspected processing plant. Once we drop off an animal, in your name, you become the “customer” and, if this is a first time for you, it may seem a bit intimidating. But, no need for alarm as the processor will ask you very general questions like: How many pieces of the cut do you want in each package? How much of the animal do you want ground? How much do you want whole or cut and, if cut, how many per package and how thick do you want it cut?

For a visual explanation, we recommend this very straight-forward video from Texas Farmstead Living
that goes through the process step by step. Ordering Cuts

The video is specific to ordering beef; however, the same concept applies to pork and lamb.

For specific lamb information, this guide may prove helpful: Lamb Cuts

Note: This information does not apply to chicken; chicken is processed on our farm and can only be picked up directly at the farm.

Can I sell items through this market?

If you are a sustainable farmer with growing standards comparable to our own or produce added value products that support sustainable agriculture, please contact the market manager about co-farming possibilities.

If you are a back-yard gardener, growing with organic methods (herbicide and pesticide free) who enjoys gardening but often has harvests too large for your own consumption, we need to talk. Not everyone can grow meat and eggs but, anyone can grow a garden. If you are a gardener, please contact us because we always have a need for more fruits and vegetables.

Products are vetted carefully before incorporating them with our own to offer to our members. We have high standards and look for others with the same.
